BODIES IN FEEDBACK

A sound.
Something answers.

Begin with a sound.

The prototype is documented as Hologram Dance · Audio Reaction. Sound is the starting point for a digital body in feedback.

Make the change visible.

The demonstration lets you see the prototype respond. Watch the relationship between the input and what the body does next.

Return to the encounter.

What makes a response legible? This is a prototype for exploring that relationship, rather than a report of evaluated results.

A visual explanation of input, response and inquiry. Watch the original demonstration above to see the prototype itself.

Bodies in feedback

Listening Body is an audio-responsive prototype, also documented as Hologram Dance within Intelligent Holograms: Bodies in Feedback. It starts with a simple relationship: sound changes what a digital body does.

Watch the response

The demonstration shows the audio-responsive prototype in motion. I’m interested in how a change becomes visible, and how that response gives someone a reason to keep exploring.

Towards a shared performance

In my August 2026 proposal for Intelligent Holograms, I set out a creative technology role alongside Andrew Leslie Hooker’s turntable performance and Melissa Pasut’s movement practice. The intention is to develop the virtual performer’s rules through rehearsal, letting rhythm, texture and repetition influence its form or timing.

Making the rules together

The proposed approach lets the dancer, musician and technologist respond to one another, with the code changing around what emerges. Andrew Leslie Hooker leads Intelligent Holograms; Melissa Pasut is its dancer and choreographer. This is the direction of the collaboration, distinct from the audio-response prototype shown here.
